The Nelson Rock Shop opened 28th July 2010 bringing new opportunities and choices to the local music scene.

Nelson is a town bursting with musicians and artists, and schools and organisations with active music programmes.

There are also many festivals throughout the year which offer opportunities to local and visiting musicians.

The Nelson store is in Bridge St in the City Centre with street parking available and also Buxton Square parking area is across the street (first hour free).

We have over 400 square meters of floor space showing off the great iconic brands of Rock and modern music.

The staff are all consummate professionals with decades of combined experience in the music industry covering live performance, studio and electronic music production, DJ’ing, teaching and song writing.

ORCHESTRAL musicians are catered to with our KBB Music section in store. So if your are a brass, woodwind, or orchestral strings player then we have something for you. We also provide orchestral instrument hire from our partners at KBB Music.

Our most recent development is the  “Community Music Space”.
Being deeply engaged with the  local musical community, Rockshoppers Brent, Rory, Ryan and Nigel are aware of the need for a central city space and lobbied for the room to be created in their store and made available in their community.

Comfortably accommodating up to 8 musicians, the room has been acoustically treated and equipped with a Roland electronic drum set, microphones and a “silent rehearsal” option with the revolutionary Roland HS5 Session Mix - allowing up to five musicians to rehearse, jam, and record while monitoring with headphones. Groups can access the equipment provided or bring their own

Open during shop hours, the Community Music Space is offered up to schools, educators or community groups who may require temporary space to rehearse: it’s not a jam room for bands, however!

The Community Music Space is available at nominal cost or,  in some instances, free of charge. Bookings are essential.
