With the Vintage Modified Series, Squier has reproduced and made available some classic models first introduced in the early ‘60s. The Squier Vintage Modified Bass VI is a six-string instrument that has a setup akin to a baritone guitar, yet is more than capable of delivering a much-desired full-bodied and rich tone.
The body is carved out of lightweight Basswood, often used due to its excellent balance of tones across low, mid and high frequencies. On the Olympic White model a 3-ply tortoise shell pickguard protects the body on the underside of the strings and around the pickup selectors. Added protection is given to the paintwork through the polyurethane finish.
The Squier Vintage Modified Bass VI comes with a solid and durable Maple neck, cut to the Modern “C”-shape. The modern “C”-shape is an updated version of the classic Fender Strat-style C shape offering a comfortable profile that is suited to most playing styles. The shortened 30” scale length – comparable to the classic Fender Bass VI - allows for a smoother and quicker playing-feel across the neck.
The rosewood fingerboard houses 21 medium-jumbo frets and is set to a 9.5” radius – a favoured Fender setting - and finished with White Binding with White Pearloid Block Position inlays. As with the body greater protection is added to the neck with a polyurethane finish.
A wealth of creative tone control is afforded to the player with the inclusion of a Custom Jaguar Single-Coil pickup at the bridge position, a Custom Jaguar Single-Coil Reverse-Wound/Reverse Polarity pickup at the mid position and a Custom Jaguar Single-Coil pickup at the neck position. A great deal of effort has been made to ensure that the “buzzing” concerns associated with earlier models are negated. Complete command of the pickups is given through the controls available such as the 4-On/Off slide switches (one for each pickup and one tone circuit), a Master Volume and a Master Tone control. As well as this each pickup is shielded using a “Claw” adding further protection against signal interference.
Looking as classy as it sounds, the 6-Saddle vintage-style non-locking floating vibrato bridge is finished in smooth chrome. Not only does the bridge look beautiful but also its functionality lends itself well to the creativity that can shine through when playing this enjoyable instrument.
