Auction For Neil Finn's Guitar

We are proud to be a part of a very special instrument auction for The NZ Music Foundation.

This outstanding Maton EBG 808 acoustic electric guitar was owned and cared for by Neil Finn and featured in the now legendary tribute he played to his late friend Paul Hester in 2005 at the Australian Aria Awards.

The guitar plays beautifully, as you would expect, and carries all the spirit of its life as part of the Finn family collection of instruments. All of the family including brother Tim, sons Elroy and Liam and other musicians in Neil’s band have used the guitar in the studio and in concert.

The varnish features superficial cracks resulting from an episode at Glastonbury where Neil left the guitar for slightly too long in the sun. The strap features technical markings and identification, and the guitar comes with a signed note from Neil’s guitar technician Rowan “Digga” Johnson attesting to its provenance.

The guitar enjoyed pride of place as an exhibit in the acclaimed “Volume: Making Music in Aotearoa” exhibition from October 2016 until May of this year.

Neil is the Patron of The NZ Music Foundation. The charity supports projects that use music in healthcare and with at-risk & vulnerable people. This includes music therapy in hospices, hospitals & schools, using the power of music to restore physical and cognitive ability lost as a result of disease and injury. It also provides emergency assistance to kiwi music people experiencing illness and hardship and a professional counselling service tailored to those involved in all aspects of music production and performance around the country.
