Dave McArtney, a founding member of Kiwi bands Hello Sailor and The Pink Flamingos, has passed away.

One of the founders of classic Kiwi rock band Hello Sailor, Dave McArtney, has died. 
The guitarist, also known for his time in 1980s band the Pink Flamingos, died at home in Pt Chevalier, Auckland, reports the New Zealand Herald.

McArtney's best-known song was perhaps 'Gutter Black', the first song from Hello Sailor's debut album, released in 1977. More than 20 years later it found a new audience as the theme song to hit New Zealand drama series Outrageous FortuneHe was twice nominated for the prestigious songwriting award the Silver Scroll, and also had success as a music producer.

For the last decade he has been a tutor at music training school MAINZ.
